Short answer: Charlottetown is about 6 to 6½ hours from our farm via the Confederation Bridge (toll paid when leaving PEI). On the Island, many municipalities require dog licences — the PEI Humane Society handles Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall — and unincorporated areas need a provincial licence under the Dog Act.
King Julien, a Norwegian Forest Cat

Islanders looking for a White Shepherd or a Norwegian Forest Cat often find few options on PEI itself. We welcome Island families — with a bit of planning, the trip is very manageable.

How far is our farm from Prince Edward Island?

Charlottetown is about 6 to 6½ hours from our farm by car, crossing the Confederation Bridge. The bridge toll is collected when you leave the Island, not on the way over.

Local rules to know when you bring a dog home

  • Municipal licences: many PEI municipalities have their own dog licensing by-laws. The PEI Humane Society enforces the by-laws in Charlottetown, Stratford and Cornwall.
  • Unincorporated areas: dogs need a provincial dog licence under PEI's Dog Act.
  • Where to buy: the PEI Humane Society, Access PEI offices, or your city or town hall. Costs depend on your municipality and whether your dog is spayed/neutered.
  • Charlottetown: the city's dog control by-law requires dogs to be on a leash — no running at large in parks.

Planning pickup day

  • Plan a stop in Moncton on the way home; the bridge crossing itself takes about 10–15 minutes.
  • Crate secured in the back seat or cargo area, water, towels, paper towels, leash.
  • Kittens travel best in a hard carrier with a familiar-smelling blanket — ask us for one from the litter.

Living with a White Shepherd or Norwegian Forest Cat in Prince Edward Island

  • Beaches: many PEI beaches and provincial/national park areas restrict dogs, especially in summer — check before you go.
  • Wind and salt air: both breeds' coats handle it well; rinse off beach sand and salt.
  • Norwegian Forest Cats make relaxed indoor companions in Island homes.
